Some examples of messages I received via LinkedIn this week:
โDear Sandor, a few days ago I sent you an email aboutโฆ but you have not responded yetโ.
Well, if I havenโt responded yet either I am too busy or donโt see the value. Furthermore, this tone is not about me but about the sender and in a negative way.
Another one;
โI am interested how you are doing! Maybe Iโve seen you recently, then you may disregard this messageโ
What? Seriously? You are interested in me but you send a automated message to the masses that I can then perhaps better disregard?
And one more:
โHi, did you get my previous message?โ
If I did or didnโt is at this point irrelevant. You want to catch my attention right away and intrigue me in what you have to say. With the current opening you donโt do any of that.
Now I am absolutely not a LinkedIn expert. But what I do know is that a growing number of people are complaining that LinkedIn (initially a business platform) has become another Facebook. The way I see it, LinkedIn can still be used as a powerful business platform and support your sales and marketing efforts. However, only when itโs used in a professional matter. When you go to a business meeting, are you then dressed in sloppy and baggy clothes, are you unshaven and unprepared? Or do you make an effort to look presentable and be professional? So why would that be any different when using LinkedIn for your business purposes? Social selling and digital marketing are very influential tools that every commercial department and individual should have in their tool kit where you should not cut any corners. Give it your best efforts. Again, I am not the LinkedIn guru but here some recommendations that we use in our programs and that will support your business;
๐ Create your own social media plan (with your objectives, actions, key attributes and messages, etc.)
๐ Share valuable content with your target audience in mind
๐ Personalize your messages, make it about the recipients and not about you
๐ Connect, intrigue and add value
๐ Always be professional, original and stand out from the crowd
LinkedIn now has around 740M users where 40% of them access this on a daily basis, with +1B interactions every month. Therefore it has immense potential as long as we truly make an effort to excel in #socialselling and #digitalmarketing.
